Avoid medications or supplements that inhibit blood-clotting such as vitamin E, aspirin, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for seven days prior to treatment. Schedule your Botox/Dysport appointment at least four weeks prior to a special event, such as a wedding or a vacation, to allow for the best results, for any potential bruising/swelling to subside, and for refinement where necessary.
Arrive at your appointment with a clean face - please do not wear makeup. Expect to take "before" pictures for the office records. The procedure includes multiple fine needle injections and mild discomfort. Tenderness can last for a few hours or a few days. Redness and swelling like a mosquito bite is normal for 5-15 minutes after treatment.
Do not perform strenuous activities involving heavy lifting or vigorous exercise for the remainder of the day to ensure the neuromodulators do not migrate outside of the injected area. Do not massage or manipulate injected areas for 24 hours after injections. Wash your face gently and use a light touch when applying makeup. If you have had injections in the upper face, do not wear a headband or hat if the band extends across your forehead.
